Mark Miles


Mark has over 25 years of experience as a CFO, board member, and senior finance executive of early-stage and Fortune 500 companies.

Mark has over 25 years of experience as a CFO, board member, and senior finance executive of early-stage and Fortune 500 companies. He has a successful track record of partnering with founders and CEOs to raise capital, scale their businesses and execute strategic and M&A transactions. He is passionate about using financial data, models, and metrics to support critical business decisions in areas such as strategy, fundraising, operations, and revenue growth.

Mark has over 25 years of experience as a senior financial leader for companies at all stages of maturity, including start-ups, growth-stage, and Fortune 500. He also has extensive Wall Street experience, both as an investment banker and private equity investor. Prior to joining Burkland, Mark was a fractional CFO working with entrepreneurs at early-stage and growth-stage companies.

As Chief Financial Officer, Mark combines his expertise in capital-raising, M&A and strategy with a deep understanding of the economics and drivers of his client’s industries and how this impacts their financing and strategic business decisions. He leads all finance and accounting activities for his clients and is very hands-on and detail-oriented.

Previously Mark was CFO and COO of private companies in the healthcare and energy industries, including Sedera (healthcare sharing), Trivista (oil & gas operations), Quantum Utility Generation (power and clean energy investments), and Riley Exploration (oil & gas exploration). Prior to that, Mark worked primarily in investment banking, private equity and corporate finance, including as Managing Director at Pritchard Capital, Partner at KRoad Power, Principal at AIG Highstar Capital, and Vice President at Enron. He started his career at Chase Manhattan Bank in London.

Mark has an MBA from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland and an LLB from the London School of Economics. He is based in Austin, Texas and enjoys reading, spending time on Lady Bird Lake with his two daughters and watching Liverpool Football Club.
