Brian is a Technical Controller at Burkland, helping venture-backed startups build the accounting infrastructure and financial rigor they need as they scale. He brings over a decade of controllership and financial analysis experience across a wide range of company sizes and industries — from Fortune 500 financial planning to multi-state operational finance — giving him a practical, get-it-right perspective on the technical accounting challenges founders face.
Before joining Burkland, Brian held Controller and finance leadership roles overseeing daily accounting, payroll, and A/P and A/R operations across multiple locations, leading annual audits, and building budgeting and KPI reporting processes. Earlier in his career, as a finance and financial planning leader at a Fortune 500 industrial company, he developed multi-department budgets, built KPI dashboards, and supported SEC reporting and reconciliations for 10-Q and 10-K filings.
At Burkland, Brian oversees monthly and annual financial closes for startup clients who need Controller-level expertise but aren’t yet ready for a full internal finance team. He advises on complex technical accounting matters — including equity accounting and multi-entity and international consolidations — supports clients through financial audits, and leads the evaluation, setup, and implementation of new accounting systems as companies outgrow their existing tools. He works fluently across accounting platforms, A/P and A/R systems, PEOs, and tax platforms.
Before his finance career, Brian served in the United States Navy, including deployments during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom — an experience that shaped his disciplined, mission-focused approach to finance.
