The Role
We are looking for a dynamic + strategic teammate at Burkland. If you have a background as a Controller and a passion for helping venture-backed startups succeed, Burkland is a wonderful fit for you!
The Controller position is a hands-on role, responsible for implementing processes and systems for our clients - including mapping out needs, choosing a system, and setting up, and implementing the system.
Your Typical, Atypical, Day
This role has variety at its core. From facilitating client meetings to overseeing monthly and yearly financial closes, no day will be a typical day (hence the typical, atypical day).
You will be supporting our startup clients who need Controller help but may not have a need for an internal team at their growth stage (usually we work with Seed through Series C clients). So, there is always a lot of work to be done!
You’ll be working with a variety of clients, so the ability to context shift, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs is the most important thing you’ll be doing in this role.
You’ll be managing accountants and processes for our clients and possibly internally to Burkland, too, so you’ll want to have a background in management.
Embracing the agile and scrappy nature of startups is a must.

The Role
The FP&A Consultant at Burkland will play a crucial role in driving strategic financial planning and analysis to support our client’s growth and profitability. This position involves developing and implementing financial models, forecasts, and key metrics dashboards while collaborating with senior management to provide insights into financial performance. The FP&A Consultant will present financial data to company leadership, Boards of Directors, and investors, and will work to improve financial processes for greater efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior team members and ensuring compliance with financial standards and regulations, all while contributing to the continuous improvement of Burkland's operations.
About You
7+ years of experience in financial analysis, with a strong background in financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic decision support, ideally in a startup or high-growth company environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Master’s degree (MBA, MS in Finance, or equivalent) strongly preferred for those with leadership aspirations in finance or corporate strategy.
CFA, CPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus and demonstrate commitment to professional development and expertise in financial leadership.
You have a passion for numbers and a strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex financial data while maintaining a strategic, high-level perspective.
You excel at developing and implementing financial models, forecasts, and key metrics dashboards that drive business decisions and growth for startup clients.
You can collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, providing financial insights that influence company goals and strategy.

As a Divisional Lead, your role will involve leading a team of accounting consultants and overseeing operations specific to helping our venture-backed startup clients succeed. Additionally, you will contribute to the business development efforts and leverage technology to optimize internal processes.
Your Typical, Atypical, Day
Lead and manage a team of accounting consultants, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to maximize their potential. Foster a collaborative and high-performing environment within the division.
Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve divisional goals and objectives, including hitting revenue and margin targets. Collaborate with leadership to align the division's activities with the company strategy.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients assigned directly to you, ensuring exceptional service delivery and building long-term relationships. Understand the client's needs and provide strategic advice and solutions.
Act as a point of escalation for clients assigned to your direct reports, ensuring exceptional service delivery and building long-term relationships. Guide your team on how to best meet their clients’ needs.
Identify new business opportunities and lead business development efforts for the division. Develop and maintain relationships with potential clients, nurture leads, and participate in client onboarding.
Oversee and manage complex projects, ensuring timely completion, quality deliverables, and adherence to client expectations.
Stay abreast of industry best practices to ensure compliance and minimize risks. Implement adequate internal controls and processes within the division.

Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, team members, and leadership.
Strong working knowledge of software is key in this role. On a daily basis, you’ll be using the entire G-Suite, Quickbooks online, Ramp, Expensify + Concur. You’ll also be using Zoom and other video conferencing tools to facilitate client meetings.
