Peter Chouinard’s Biography
For the last 25+ years, Peter has served in impactful leadership roles including CEO/President, Board Member, CFO and Head of Corporate Strategy. He’s a seasoned startup and middle-market leader in CPG and has leveraged his quantitative and technical skills to cross over and support both consumer technology and IoT clients as well.
Prior to coming to Burkland Peter was the CEO of Devine Products, an exponential growth, consumer technology, product development company for Linde AG. Devine Products’ early innovation in wine aging using pure oxygen leveraged Peter’s previous tenure in the wine industry where he was both an entrepreneur, owning and managing his own winery (Bluxome Street Winey) and early on serving as both CFO then President of Wente Vineyards. Wente Vineyards is the country’s longest, continuously operated family-owned winery (founded 1883) and their holdings extended into hospitality, real estate, and other areas of agriculture. Peter was the first non-family member ever to lead the company. In his eight-year tenure, he led the transition from the 4th to 5th generation of family ownership. More broadly he was successful in leading financial restructuring efforts, divestitures, and acquisitions, facilitated organizational development and culture change, developed business plans, launched new brands, raised capital, implemented a new senior leadership team, and achieved both strategic & financial results before exiting and returning leadership back to the family.
Peter’s earliest career experiences were at General Mills and Foster Farms where he was involved in finance, accounting, operations, acquisitions, due diligence, and business strategy. Peter’s foundational expertise is in finance and accounting however he has married that quantitative skill set with a breadth of business and leadership skills that have made him adept at business strategy, solving problems, identifying opportunities, and being a strategic financial partner to the businesses he serves.
Peter received an MS in Finance from Bentley University and both an MS in Accounting and a BBA from the Isenberg School at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Outside of work, family and a love of wine Peter also has a passion for learning and when time permits, teaching. Peter has been an adjunct MBA program instructor teaching corporate finance at Saint Mary’s College of California and at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
