Mike Kaswan

Mike has over 25 years of experience as a senior finance executive, venture capital investor, chief executive officer and board member, working with rapidly growing companies in the healthcare and other industries.

Mike is passionate about entrepreneurship and business value creation, having conceived and written the business plans for two companies that achieved cash exits for a combined $1.4 billion, been a co-founder of a venture capital firm that raised over $290 million in investment capital and created and run a “start-up by acquisition” with over 200 employees.

Mike holds an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Commerce with a Finance concentration from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

Steven Lord

Steven runs our East Coast on-demand CFOs practice. He has led, founded and managed companies in the financial technology, asset management and publishing sectors in Europe and in the United States. His 25-year career as an entrepreneur and senior executive in both public and private companies equips him with a deep understanding of strategic capital formation, financial modeling, operational efficiencies, restructuring and turnaround management, and M&A.

Steve has served as a senior consultant and interim CFO for companies across a broad range of sectors and sizes, bringing particular expertise with subscription-based business models (including SaaS) in the fintech, publishing and digital currency/blockchain industries to Burkland.  Steve also has served as an expert witness for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and is active in disaster relief missions as a Civil Air Patrol liaison officer to FEMA’s Region II.

Steve holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Vermont.

Morgan Rodd

Morgan brings over 25 years of finance experience in tech. He’s been a CFO, a venture capitalist, a corporate development executive, and an investment banker. Morgan has developed deep domain expertise in cloud-based software subscription models and their key financial and business metrics. He focuses his wealth of expertise on companies building SaaS businesses. His recent CFO clients have included Canvs.AI (SaaS data analytics), LegalPublish (SaaS marketing automation), PushSend (SaaS marketing and event communications) and AdvantEdge Analytics (SaaS fintech and data management ).

Morgan’s experience also includes Alex Brown & Sons, where he executed public offerings and M&A transactions for leading companies in tech, Volpe Brown Whelan, which took the first Internet company, Netcom Online; E*Trade, where he managed and executed acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic investments and co-managed E*Trade’s direct investing venture capital group; and ArrowPath Venture Partners, an early-stage venture fund with $300 million under management. As a VC, he invested over $125 million in more than 25 companies. Two of Morgan’s investments, Equinix and Financial Engines, went public while a number have been acquired by companies such as Cisco, VMWare, Oracle, Dell-EMC, and Symantec.

Morgan graduated with a BA in History from Wesleyan University and earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in finance.

Dorian Brown

Dorian has held CFO roles in the entertainment and education fields in small and medium-sized companies, as well as managed strategy, various financial functions, human resources, acquisitions and real estate transactions for large corporations. 

She was the co-founder and partner at FT Partners, a concierge financial service for women. Prior to this, Dorian was the executive vice president and CFO of Star Theatres, where she directed all financial functions and business affairs, and negotiated and managed bank credit and M&A. Before Star, Dorian was a senior vice president at Loews Theatres, where she developed the strategic plan and mission, negotiated union contracts, negotiated the joint venture to form Magic Johnson Theatres, and developed their 10-year business plan. Dorian was also a vice president of programming and business operations at Showtime Satellite Networks, and a vice president of strategic planning at Columbia Pictures Entertainment. 

Dorian has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from George Washington University.

Steven Zausner

Steve has helped build, grow, and exit, three firms, and led the turnaround of a multi-billion-dollar division of a global bank. He also has extensive C-suite experience working across many different industries and geographies, running teams in Finance, Operations and Corporate Strategy and Development. 

In addition to his work at Burkland, Steve is a managing partner of OFFICE:FMA, a financial and strategy advisory firm that works with development finance institutions, government agencies, foundations and the private sector to design, build and fund initiatives aimed at solving complex social problems, oftentimes in emerging markets. Steve has completed assignments or transactions in more than 60 countries. Steve also has held leadership roles at  Banco Santander, RoseTech Ventures, Goldman Sachs and Vicis Capital, where he was Head of the London Office.

A former journalist, Steve prides himself on being able to make arcane financial concepts easily understandable to non-financial professionals. As an Adjunct Professor, Steve teaches a graduate-level finance and investment course, at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Steve has a Master’s Degree in International Finance and Business from Columbia University, and an BA in Politics from NYU.
