The Role

This is an ideal role for a Payroll Specialist who is eager to broaden their impact by bringing your knowledge and experience to develop and implement best-in-class payroll practices with our early-stage startups. This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role, responsible for all aspects of Payroll.

A Day in the Life

  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of semi-monthly and monthly payrolls for clients’ employees located in multi-state locations.
  • Review and process transactions including benefit changes, special compensation, and other adjustments.
    Prepare journal entries, payroll, and benefits reconciliations, and assist with quarterly reporting and external financial audits.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting team to process new hires, terminations, leaves, and other changes.
  • Resolve inquiries from internal and external clients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, federal, state, and local requirements, and deadlines.
  • Manage regulatory filings, notices, audits, and other communications from federal and state agencies.
  • Work on multiple payroll platforms, partnering with vendors on system administration, maintenance, and reporting needs when necessary.
  • Partner with accounting and people ops to manage, reconcile, and report on employee benefit programs, including 401(k) and FSA, and work with service providers to resolve inquiries and/or provide employee training.
  • Prepare and process new equity awards, exercises, cancellations, and releases promptly, including off-cycle payrolls for tax withholdings.

You’re the perfect fit for us if…

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll processing experience.
  • FPC, CPP, NACPB, or other certifications preferred.
  • Strong Knowledge of payroll tax deposit, filings, principles, and wage and hour laws.
  • Experience with payroll platforms including ADP, Gusto, Rippling, Justworks, and Trinet.
  • Experience working on multiple client payroll projects at one time.
  • Experience processing multi-state payrolls.
  • Easily adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Good Communication skills are a must, both Oral and Written.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Must be organized, reliable, friendly, and dependable.

The base pay range target for the role described in this job description is $65,000 – $85,000. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition, full-time regular positions are eligible for 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-time.
